With autumn coming, that means it will be time for Walden’s fall auction. The date has been set for October 2nd, and the whole town will be abuzz with activity that day. The women of the Neighborhood Home and Garden Club will, as has become tradition, set up with their bake sale goods at Waldens and other organizations are bound to follow suit with participation and activities. Mark your calendars, and prepare for a day of real hometown enjoyment.

The Neighborhood Home and Garden Club will use the proceeds from the bake sale for their scholarship fund and Santa sacks. These two projects are close to the ladies’ hearts and provide wonderful results for some of the folks in our area. Club officers for the 2010-11 year are: President Carol Buchanan, Vice President Dora Atteberry, Secretary Joanne Barnhart, Treasurer JuanEtta Gilbert, Assistant Secretary Wanda Boyd and Parlimentarian Johnnie Doan.

Jeff Edwards, of the Millsap VFD, sent  me a very thorough, and well written, e-mail about several aspects of what is happening with this busy organization. One of the main topics is the Annual Turkey Dinner. It will be Nov. 14th at the elementary school. Instead of the His & Hers Raffle, which was reported in last week’s column, they have come up with a very innovative idea: there will be a Split the Pot Raffle at the dinner. Chances for this will cost $1, with half going to the department and the other half to the winner (winner must be present).

Also there will be a silent auction and donations are needed for this. To donate call the station at (940) 682-4390 and leave a message or e-mail  millsapfd@embarqmail.com. This group is always doing their best for us, and they have other big news which I will tell you about next week.

We have several in our area who are ill or recovering. J.L Rutledge is in rehab after surgery, while  Erlinda Ortiz may be back home after  a shoulder operation. Vann and Christy Shaw have gone to a nursing center while Vann undergoes rehab. May they regain their health soon!
