Charles Allen Payette, 50, of Possum Kingdom Lake, was arrested Dec. 22 on a warrant for aggravated sexual assault and on two charges of sexual assault of a child.
According to information from the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office, Payette is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl, who was 14 years old at the time, in 2006.
Now an adult, the woman reportedly made an outcry to friends and made a complaint with the sheriff’s office in late November.
A second girl, still a juvenile, was also interviewed by CPS during the investigation. Payette allegedly sexually assaulted her outside Palo Pinto County when she was between the ages of 6 and 13 years.
Investigators said law enforcement in another state has been contacted about those allegations.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Payette was being held on $450,000 bond in the Palo Pinto County Jail.
Man injured in wreck
Kenneth Brian Copeland, 34, was transported to a hospital by helicopter after a one-vehicle wreck near Strawn around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Gary Rozzell.
Copeland was driving a 2009 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Farm-to-Market Road 207 about 6 miles west of State Highway 16 when the vehicle went off the south side of the roadway, went through a fence and rolled, Rozzell said.
A caller reportedly came upon the wreck and called the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office reporting a man had been ejected from a vehicle and was laying in a ditch near the road, according to records.
However, Rozzell said they do not believe Copeland was ejected.
Strawn EMS transported Copeland to the intersection of S.H. 16 and Interstate 20, where he was airlifted to the hospital.
Though the wreck is still under investigation, Rozzell said alcohol is suspected as a factor.
