From Staff Reports

A 24-year-old Breckenridge man found himself in Palo Pinto County Jail late Saturday night after he was stopped for speeding on State Highway 193 between Gordon and Mingus, according to the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Department.

Andre Maurice Stevenson was charged with possession of marijuana after a large quantity – an estimated 2 pounds – of suspected weed was found inside his vehicle, reports stated.

Authorities said Stevenson and a female companion were stopped around 8:10 p.m. Saturday. When the deputy reportedly smelled the stench of marijuana, he asked for and received Stevenson’s consent to search his car. The deputy then pulled down the back seat to open the trunk, stating the smell of marijuana became even stronger. The pot was allegedly found inside a wooden speaker box.

Stevenson was booked into county jail and later released after posting a $20,000 bond on the state jail felony offense. The female with him was not arrested.

Burglary arrests

Two men were charged with burglary of a building Friday night after they were allegedly caught inside a closed store near the Palo Pinto Lake dam.

According to Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Department reports, Bradley Wayne Cassaday, 26, of Palo Pinto, and Justin Lee Geelan, 37, of Bridgeport, was arrested at the Tadpole Camp store located on State Highway 4.

The arrests came after deputies answered a call concerning suspicious activity at the store, which has been closed since flooding earlier in the year. The men were trying to take items including hand tools and a swing set, according to sheriff’s department reports.

The two men were facing additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and public intoxication. They were scheduled for arraignment Monday.
