The United Way of Palo Pinto County's 2010 campaign is under way through the end of October. This year's goal is $165,000.

The United Way provides monies to assist the funding of 13 local and area non-profit agencies providing a wealth and variety of services to people young and old throughout Palo Pinto County.

United Way also sponsors a number of community service events, such as the recent "Smiles on Wheels" free dental clinic and the recent series of classes to help people learn to budget and manage their finances.

The first ever Live United Run for the County was announced last week. Form a team at church or work. Wear your costume.

The event is Saturday, Oct. 30, with a 1K Fun Run beginning at 8 a.m., followed by a 5K run at 8:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit United Way of Palo Pinto County. The walk/runs take place at Wolter’s Industrial Park off U.S. Highway 180 East in Mineral Wells.

Advance registration costs is $20 adults for, $10 for kids. Teams (minimum of 10) is $15 per team member. After Oct. 22, costs are adults $25 and kids $15.
