Mineral Wells ISD officials recently announced Mineral Wells High School Principal Dr. Doug Funk is going to Harvard University.

Dr. Funk has been selected to participate in the 2020 Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Program, the highlight of which is 10 days spent in leadership classes taught by world-class education experts on the hallowed grounds of Harvard, one of the nation’s finest and oldest universities.

Dr. Funk will be among 62 honorees selected from hundreds of Texas school leader applicants to participate in this exciting program.

Mineral Wells ISD superintendent Dr. John Kuhn feels Dr. Funk “is the perfect choice.” Kuhn said he believes Funk was among those selected because of his passion for students and the potential for his leadership to affect significant change not only in the Mineral Wells community but across the state.

In light of disruptions caused by COVID-19, Raise Your Hand Texas has adjusted the schedule of activities for the 2020 Raise Your Hand Texas Leadership Program in that travel to Harvard to participate in the leadership institute has been deferred to Summer 2021.

This will give Dr. Funk plenty of time to pack his bags, Kuhn said.

Kuhn said until then, “I’m sure he will be working hard to keep leading Mineral Wells High School into the future with enthusiasm and commitment. He does a great job leading our students and faculty.”

Through Raise Your Hand Texas, Texas public school principals are eligible to attend the "Improving Schools: Art of Leadership" institute or the "Leadership: An Evolving Vision" institute. Each institute is a week-long professional development summer course taught in Cambridge, Mass., by faculty at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Selected applicants receive all-expenses paid training and become a member of the statewide network of over 1,300 Raise Your Hand Texas alumni.
