The city's Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday recommended raising acceptable noise levels for longer periods of time in the downtown area.

A proposed updated noise ordinance by Mineral Wells Police Chief Dean Sullivan received its first official review during the meeting. Recent complaints from downtown residents about loud music coming from Fuzzy’s Taco Shop resulted in the board’s expedited viewing of the ordinance.

According to City Manager Lance Howerton, the commission’s only recommendation related to mixed-use zoning districts. He said P&Z members voted to raise Sullivan’s proposed levels in those districts by 5 decibels.
