Palo Pinto County Retired Teachers held its second First-Year Teacher Round Up on August 5 at the Mineral Wells ISD Board Room.

All of the first year teachers who were beginning their career in Education were invited. There were a total of 20 first year teachers in Palo Pinto County. The purpose of this event was to welcome them to their new career and to let them know that the Retired Teachers of Palo Pinto County support them.

Jenny McClure, President of PPCRTA, welcomed the teachers. They were then sent on an hour and-a-half “shopping spree.” This included gently used teacher-tested teaching materials that were donated by retired teachers. New teaching supplies were available for their choosing. This included things that every teachers needs to set up a classroom.

First-year teachers

Six first-year teachers won $200 cash to help them start their first year of teaching. Pictured, from left to right, are Amber Kunes, Jacob Kasper, Norvell Golden, Rachael Williams, Julia Clark and Tammy Sharp.  Congratulations!

Gift cards from various retirees and local businesses were also donated and used as door prizes. This was not the end of the generosity of the Retired Teachers. Six of the new teachers received $200 cash to help them start the school year.

It is a great event! We are privileged to live in a community with a big heart. A retiree made this statement at the end of the event: “I loved seeing the different expressions on their faces as they came in … some were confident, some apprehensive, but all so appreciative as they left.”
