12-30 senior birthdays.jpg

The Mineral Wells Senior Center hosted its monthly birthday party on Dec. 17, honoring participants with December birthdays. They were, back row, Wesley Albright, Bill Keller, Vida Manley, Glen Liles, Rudy Alvardo, Jim Slattery and Jay Turner; middle row, Pat Morrow, Evalua Genzel, Mary Stahl, Bertha Hoover and Don Wright; and front row, Janie Stanley, Joyce Rochelle, Sharon McKinley and Mary Green.

Are you asking yourself where did this year go? How did I let so much time slip through my fingers?

Was 2010 the year you planned on seriously starting your exercise routine, learning a new craft, finishing the craft projects already started, experimenting with a new hobby, spending more quite time reading instead of glued to the television watching bad programming.

If any of these plans were on your TO DO, come by the senior center and pick up a January 2011 calendar and jump into those activities. During the first week of January, the Tuesday and Thursday craft classes will be discussing which new projects and crafts they want to learn during January and February. The time to start those new activities is now don’t wait – December 2011 will be here before you turn around.

The New Year’s Eve Eve Party is today when we will eat, drink and be merry. The center will provide the sandwiches, finger food and the drinks to toast in a New Year. Participants are asked to bring a sweet treat, chips, or dip to add to the spread. Call 325-6470 to make your reservation.  This is the time of year to get back in touch with old friends. Take this opportunity call them and invite them to join you at this Thursday at the party or next week for lunch at the center.

Have you been enjoying the Christmas music and singing along with those old time favorites? If the answer was Yes, then you need to join the Silver Notes each Monday morning at 10am when  they visit area nursing homes to sing the favorite old time gospel songs. This activity provides two rewards – one, you get to raise your voice in joyful praise and two, you get to share those songs with others. Call the center at 325-6470 to find out which facility the group will be performing at each week.

Special note – the senior center will be closed Friday and beginning Jan. 1 the center will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily. Lunch is served daily at noon with a suggested donation of $3. Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance.
