One hundred women giving $100 each to a Palo Pinto County non-profit organization is going to make for a great day for that agency – and an hour of fun for the donors.
The event takes place at 2 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 9, at Coffee and Cocktails at 76067 in downtown Mineral Wells.
Organizers Jill Moore, Joy Eaton, Kriste Burnett and Barbara Upham say $10,000 will go to a non-profit agency during an expenses-paid soireé.
The theme is: "100 Women. $100 dollars. $10,000. One hour."
The downtown restaurant and bar, as well as adjacent The Market at 76067, will be available to the women to enjoy free food and drinks. They will just need to write a $100 check to the successful non-profit organization at the end.
The non-profits applying for the $10,000 must be a 501(c)3 in good standing. The services provided with the $10,000 must remain in the county.
The group accepted funding applications from local and area non-profits, and on Sunday three finalists will make their final presentations to the group. The group will then vote and make their donations directly to the winning organization.
"We don't collect any money," Moore said. "All the money is written straight to the non-profit that wins the vote. There are so many people who depend on (the organizations), kids who depend on them," said Moore. "I thought this would be easy, I thought it would be cool."
She said while not every woman is able to write a $100 check, they made it in a way they believed would be more inclusive than exclusive while still raising that amount of money.
"It is just going to be a fun event for a bunch of women on a Sunday afternoon and it won't take up a lot of their time," Moore added.
They plan to make it an annual event.
