Jackson Horton passed for five touchdowns and ran for two more as Community Christian returned to the TCAF state playoffs after a five-year program dormancy with a resounding 51-40 win over St. Paul’s Prep Friday night.
With St. Paul’s leading 8-7 after the first quarter, there had been no indication of the offensive fireworks as the game’s second-frame exploded. Horton provided the Warriors’ first score on a 13-yard run and went to the air for two more scores hooking up with Luke Knowles for touchdowns of 22 and 24 yards.
St. Paul sandwiched two scores around a Kameron Weise’s 34-yard touchdown reception. Horton closed out the first half with his second rushing touchdown to put the Warriors on top 31-24 at halftime.
Community Christian kept St. Paul’s at bay the remainder of the way with Mason James scoring on runs of one and seven yards.
The Warriors sealed the victory when Knowles snared an interception on defense and turned it into a 52-yard touchdown pass from Horton on offense for the final margin of victory at 51-40.
The Warriors open the first round of the TCAF playoffs Friday against Heritage Christian in Haslet. The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m.
