San Angelo Lakeview proved to be the better team Tuesday against the Lady Rams, but Coach Rolando Borjon feels Mineral Wells was still the best team despite a 5-0 loss.
That’s because Borjon is looking beyond the score and seeing what his young charges can become over the season and into district action. With Mineral Wells looking to replace nine players off last year’s squad, there are still plenty of ingredients needed before baking a playoff run.
“We are a young team and we need to get as much game experience as possible. We came out a little nervous,” Borjon said. “The second thing was a lack of communication and that comes from not having that starting experience.”
Mineral Wells lost possession of the ball too many times due to forcing the ball and not slowing down its play.
“We have got to make passes to feet and not just down the field,” Borjon said. “We were getting tired because we are chasing after the ball and our energy level was dropping off.”
The excellent news for Mineral Wells is the Lady Rams got stronger on offense as the game wore on and there were several scoring opportunities.
“We are going to bounce back, and once we establish the communication we need, the wins will come too,” Borjon said.
Mineral Wells travels to the Midlothian for the Heritage tournament this weekend.
