Graford won the consolation bracket of the Martin Mills Tournament after suffering a pair of losses but don’t expect the No. 2 Rabbits to fall far in the basketball polls as both losses were to ranked 3A schools.
“This was a very good tournament for us,” Coach Ty Tabor said. “We saw some style of play we don’t see around here, and the entire field of teams was high quality.”
The tournament’s bracket was shark infested as the Rabbits first topped No. 22 3A Franklin 55-44 behind 13 points each from Xavier Harrison and Tanner Ford.
Harrison would have his highest-scoring game of the tournament in round two as Graford topped 3A Chapel Hill in a 84-45 runaway. Marc Matthews (14) and Tanner Ford (13) joined Harrison in double-figure scoring.
The Rabbits dropped their next two games as they ventured up the 3A rankings dropping a 50-41 contest to No. 10 East Chambers and a 63-54 game against No. 25 Little River Academy. Butler (28) and Harrison (26) paced the Rabbits’ scoring in those two games.
In the consolation final, the Rabbits faced their largest opponent of the tournament and proved up to the task to beating 4A Canton 48-41 with Harrison leading the scoring with 11 points.
