Santo's Sarah Van Remmen (20) recorded a triple double Tuesday night during the No. 5 Ladycats' 88-20 win over Rising Star. Van Remmen scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and collected 11 steals.

Santo post Sarah Van Remmen recorded 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had 11 steals to post a triple double and lead the state-ranked (Texas Girls Coaches Association) No. 5 Ladycats to an 88-20 runaway victory over Rising Star Tuesday night in non-district action.

Van Remmen also registered four blocks and three assists, but wasn’t alone in high numbers. Brooke Rice had a double double with 16 points and 11 boards to go along with four assists, and Lyndi Trammell scored 15 with Tori Tackett adding 11. Tackett also finished with five steals and four assists.

Also scoring for the Ladycats were Payton Billue with eight points, Breeana Raffaele with seven, Bailey Andress and Alyssa McKennon, each six and Dani George with two.

The win raises the Ladycats’ mark to 14-1. Santo will host Graham at 5 p.m. on Friday.

“TGCA has us ranked fifth and TABC (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches) has us at No. 14, so it’s nice to get recognition,” Ladycats head coach Tony Raffaele said. “But honestly, rankings mean nothing. We will find out what kind of team we have in the next six weeks. All rankings will do is put a big bullseye on our back.

"But so far, our kids are meeting the challenge well.”

The Ladycats junior varsity defeated Rising Star, 36-18, to raise its record to 5-3. Taylor Nemeth lead SHS with 15 points. Also scoring were Tiffany Applewhite with seven points, Vicki Taylor with six, Kristy Trammell with five, Chloe McGlaun with two and Lauryn Loftin with one.

Lady Hounds blast Sidney

SIDNEY – Zakia Winegeart scored a game-high 23 points, Tiffany Lee added 13 and Jennifer Lewallen finished with 10 as the trio led the state-ranked No. 7 Strawn Lady Hounds to a convincing 60-15 victory over Sidney on Tuesday night in non-district action.

The win lifts the Lady Hounds to a 14-2 mark. Strawn will play next at home against Rising Star on Friday.

Also scoring for Strawn were Diamond Berumen and Nancy Juarez, each with our points, and Kayme Wells, Brianna Guerrero and Heather Nowak, each with two.

Santo boys clip Rising Star

SANTO – Aaron McKennon scored 14 points and Brady Wharton added 12 to lead the Santo Wildcats to a 48-38 win over Rising Star Tuesday night in a non-district game.

The win lifted the Wildcats’ record to 8-6. Santo will host Goldthwaite at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Also scoring for the Wildcats were Brent Bezio with seven points, Tim Long and Zane Mauney, each with four, Matt Webb with three, and Andrew Power and Colton Kroll, each with two.

“We played better tonight,” Wildcats head coach Tony Smith said. “We played under control, made a lot of good decisions and won the game the way we need to win games. We executed on offense, played solid defense and had strong rebounding. And Colton Kroll may have not scored much, but he gave an outstanding performance.”
