The University Interscholastic League’s reclassification and realignment numbers indicate Mineral Wells will be moving down to Class 4A D2, and that’s not going to make things any easier for Rams’ football.

Moving down from 4-A D2 will likely land Mineral Wells in a district containing opponents like Graham and Iowa Park two teams the Rams matched up against the past two seasons.

While it will be February before redistricting will be announced by the UIL predictions made by the Padilla Poll have Mineral Wells moving to District 3 where the possible league members might be Aubrey, Bridgeport, Graham, Krum and Sanger.

Mineral Wells turned in an attendance number of 805.5 (alternative school students count .5), and that number was well below the 4A D2 cutoff figure of 864. The realignment numbers only count toward football, and schools may have a different district for other sports.

Mineral Wells was one of 11 schools moving down from D1 to D2 other schools included Carthage, Celina, China Spring, Gatesville, Gonzales, Navasota, Paris North Lamar, Sanger, Sealy, Seminole.

Celina’s move down isn’t good news considering the Bobcats’ success at the D1 level.

Mineral Wells is the only area school moving up or down in classification .
