Mineral Wells High School Lady Rams goalie Reagan Carter takes a free kick during a district win over Brownwood on Tuesday. Carter had a clean sheet in regulation and made three PK saves to give the Lady Rams a 3-2 win.

The Mineral Wells High School Rams and Lady Rams soccer teams wasted little time rebounding from a pair of losses at Stephenville with a clean sweep of the Brownwood Lions in their 2019 district home opener Tuesday night at Ram Stadium.

The now 12th-ranked Lady Rams – based on the latest TGCA poll released Feb. 20, played the Lady Lions to a 0-0 stalemate at the end of regulation.

In their first shootout since a loss to Mabank in the third place match of the Midlothian Tournament,  the Lady Rams exorcised any leftover demons with a 3-2 win on Tuesday.

Senior Mia Elder takes a corner kick. Elder was one of three seniors to score during a 3-2 shootout win over Brownwood.

Lady Rams seniors Mia Elder, Talynn Perry and Elizabeth Perez all tallied shootout goals, with Perez securing the game winner for her second of the season.

Lady Rams keeper Reagan Carter notched four saves to get the win and pull the Lady Rams (13-3-1, 1-1) back to .500 in District 6-4A.

Rams win big, 5-0

The Rams (9-7-2, 1-1) needed less time securing their first District 6-4A win of the year with four goals in the first 45 minutes of regulation on Tuesday in a 5-0 win.

Sophomore Cristian Narvaez led the way with his first two goals of the season for the varsity squad.

Fellow sophomore Cody Oakland found the back of the Brownwood net for his first goal of the season, and freshman Micah Gray scored his second.

Rams forward Josue Valle added his third goal of the year, and juniors Kishan Patel and Julian Avila combined for three assists.

In net, Oakland had one save on the night and sophomore Miguel Hidalgo finished with five to get the win and move the Rams into second place in their three-team district.

MWHS soccer will continue district competition next Tuesday, Feb. 26, as the Rams and Lady Rams host Stephenville High School at Ram Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
