Levi Butler hit four of his six three-pointers in the third quarter as No. 3 Class 1A Graford rallied from an eight-point deficit to a take a 70-61 playoff warm-up victory Saturday over 3A Breckenridge in Mansfield.
The Jackrabbits improved to 28-6 on the year with victory over the 24-7 Buckaroos, and early on, it looked like Graford had met its match in Breckenridge.
The Buckaroos jumped out to a 20-14 lead and kept the Rabbits at bay 34-30 at halftime as Xavier Harrison and Butler worked to keep it close with eight and six points, respectively.
Graford got a workout at the free-throw line with as Marc Matthews, Robert Kincaid, Tanner Ford, and Cody Lemley combined to hit 9-12.
The Rabbits came out of the locker room and shifted into high gear with a 28-16 third-quarter run with Butler leading the way with 12 points. Harrison’s 13 points in the second half added up to a game-high 21 points, and he also led the Rabbits with nine rebounds.
Defense dominated the fourth quarter, and that worked out to a 12-11 fourth quarter.
Butler was next on the scoring list with 18 points, Matthews netted 11 and Lemley had eight.
Graford now awaits the winner of the Miller Grown/Avery game that is scheduled for Tuesday.
