Back for more!
I just can’t stay away from Mineral Wells High School sports. It’s been with me since 1956 and maybe a couple of years before. I remember almost every play in the Rams’ 40-10 win over Weatherford in 1959.
MWHS Hall of Fame members Jackie Ingley, Charles “Tubby” Daves and David Visentine, played a big part in the victory.
In 1972, I began writing sports for the Index, which was also the same year Coach Jackie Harvey showed as a first-year coach at Mineral Wells. That was 48 years ago.
I have penned Ram Tracking off and on for almost half a century. During that time, there have been some great years in all sports and some not so great, but the ride has been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed every moment.
Who are the two Rams who have scored points in the Super Bowl? (Answer at bottom)
Judge Hart records hole-in-one
Judge Bobby Hart hit the perfect shot last week at Canyon West Golf Course when he made a hole-in-one. Hart aced the 17th hole from 151 yards. The long-time Ram fan’s solo shot was witnessed by Dr. Ty Gore, Rodney Henderson and Richard Stuarat.
Hulin’s record is one for the ages
In 1994, Talton Hulin Jr. picked up a Granbury Pirate fumble and returned it 100 yards for a Ram touchdown. The Pirates were about to put the game away when Hulin picked the ball up off the turf and turned the tide for a Mineral Wells’ victory.
Ram Trivia Answer
Alvin Garrett (1974) and Curt Knight (1962).
Garrett caught a touchdown pass from Joe Theisman in the Redskins Super Bowl XVII win over Miami, and Knight kicked an extra-point in the Redskins’ 14-7 loss to Miami in Super Bowl VII.
