Santo's softball team is off to its best start in a decade as the Lady Wildcats have run out to an 8-1 record under first-year Coach Devon Grieser
Santo won the Graford tournament and finished second at the Millsap tournament after being upset by Olney, a team they already beaten this season.
The Lady Wildcats own wins over Graford, Olney, Chico, Lipan, Alvord, and Millsap topping their area rival 11-2.
Santo's 2020 softball season began with a bang as Mackenzie Wysong's bat led the way in an 8-7 season-opening win as she smashed a grand slam and drove in four runs. Jasmine Antonio was also impressive with a three-run double.
In a 17-6 win over Olney, the Lady Wildcats had multiple players with multiple hits and RBI. Antonio had four hits while Marissa Perry, Abby Johnson, Makaya Jenkins, Wysong had three hits apiece. Jenkins and Wysong each had four RBI.
Santo had an incredible 21 hits against Olney as Audri Smith and Tori Pender added two hits each, and Emma Johnson had one.
The Lady Wildcats' next two wins featured fourth-inning rallies and proved Santo has figured out how to get to track their opponents pitching.
Santo has also enjoyed some solid pitching from Perry, who has a team-high 13.1 innings pitched while giving up 14 hits and striking out 14 batters. Johnson and Jenkins have matching totals of 4.1 innings in the mound and six hits allowed and five strikeouts each.
