Santo improved to 23-9 by using a stifling second-quarter defense to lay claim to a bi-district title as the Lady Wildcats beat Quanah 50-23 Monday night in Anson.
The Lady Wildcats now advance area round to play the winner of the Era/Sam Rayburn game at a time and location to be announced.
Against Quanah (11-8), Santo opened up with a 13-8 run sparked by five points from Natalee Finley, four by Channing Motley, and two points each by Jenzi Percivill and Cassidy Walker.
The Lady Wildcats turned up their defense in the second quarter as they limited the Lady Indians to just three points. Finley continued her attack on the basket with six points in the second stanza.
“The girls got after it on defense tonight,” Coach Michael Huxen said. “I’m proud of how they came out and took care of business against a tough team.
Percivill pounded out 12 of her game-high points in the second half, and Santo pulled away with a 16-5 third-quarter advantage.
Leading 40-16 heading into the fourth quarter, allowed Coach Michael Huxen to work in his players as Hannah Kroll and Zoey Jones added to the Lady Wildcats’ numbers.
Finley joined Percivill in double-figure scoring with 13 points, while Motley scored eight, Krolls recorded six, Walker had five and Jones netted two.
