Brock ISD board of trustees approved purchasing five buses during Monday’s board meeting.
These buses were approved by voters during BISD’s bond election in November. The district purchased three white activity buses and two 77-passenger student buses for $660,241, BISD Communications Director Natalie Parish said. The buses are expected to arrive in late June or early July.
Also during the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Dee Ann Mills talked about how the District of Innovation Committee revisited BISD’s DOI plan earlier this month. The committee approved the recommendations to provide an alternative insurance carrier to employees, remove the behavior coordinator language from the Student Handbook to create more collaboration between principals and campus administrators, and change language in the policy that addresses the 90% in attendance guidelines. These recommendations are posted on the website for public comment and viewing for 30 days.
Brock Intermediate School student programs and clubs were showcased at Monday’s meeting. Clubs available to students are band, Honor Choir, Chess Club, Lunch Bunch, Junior FFA, Character Crew, Baking Club, UIL Academics, Running Club and archery.
“We want to give students opportunities to explore and discover their passion outside of the classroom, these extracurricular options can give them just that,” Intermediate Principal Ingia Saxton said. “From learning how to give a handshake and tie a tie to staying active in the running club or making new friendships in Lunch Bunch we want all students to have a place and be engaged. We continue to seek feedback from students and staff on what other options they’re interested in.”
The board also approved administrator contracts and reimbursement of $25,000 for soil testing during the meeting.
BISD school board meetings are regularly held on the second Monday of each month.
